Date of accident 8/15. -called Ford the week prior to accident to ask if there was a recall because my break light came on. She told me there was not and they didn’t have the part in stock to repair it if it was. I told her I would try to add fluid and that seemed to work and the light turned off, unless I used my parking break. So I only parked on flat areas until it was ready to be fixed and didn’t use the parking break, but that time never came. After that, I got into the accident on 8/15 and even reported to my insurance (Kemper auto) that my car wouldn’t break even though I was far back enough to break without incident but the car just wouldn’t stop. My right tire is bent and my left tire is popped so now I’m unable to drive it to the dealer if the part comes in.","canonical_url":"https://api.ai-analytics.org/vehicle-complaint/2135628"},{"cmplid":"2129283","date_received":"2025-09-11","make":"BAL","model":"OTHER","model_year":null,"deaths":1,"injured":0,"fire":0,"crash":1,"component_desc":"EQUIPMENT:MOTORCYCLE:HELMETS","description":"[XXX] was in motorcycle crash where his helmet he was wearing failed him. The incident I’m referring to is a fatal accident. The VW SUV swerved a hit a tree. The car burst into flames, trapping the unconscious teenagers inside. Passersby could not get the doors opened fast enough. One teenage girl died. Three were horribly burned and one had moderate injuries. My question is, when the airbags are deployed, why don’t the doors automatically unlock? It seems to be something automakers should concern themselves with developing. Even seemingly minor accidents could benefit with auto unlock. Airbags=Doors unlock. Thank you for your time.","canonical_url":"https://api.ai-analytics.org/vehicle-complaint/2127521"},{"cmplid":"1987629","date_received":"2024-04-29","make":"BAL","model":"OTHER","model_year":null,"deaths":0,"injured":0,"fire":0,"crash":1,"component_desc":"ENGINE","description":"The vehicle consumes a gallon of oil weekly. We just took a trip and opened our bins underneath to find that in transit something shifted and TURNED THE LIGHT ON IN THE BIN and it burned the plastic cover of the light AND it burned a plastic tarp! Had it been touching something else, our entire unit could have gone up in flames! It seems that the bin that is directly UNDER THE BED accessible from OUTSIDE the RV has THREE LIGHT SWITCHES on the INSIDE WALLS of that bin. There is NO COVER over that switches. The bulbs in those lights are old style lights that get extremely hot. When things move during transit they can bump those switches and TURN THEM ON. THERE IS NO WAY TO KNOW THE LIGHT IS ON. (In my Fleetwood the Cago bin light switch was INSIDE THE RV and an indicator told you when it was on). Not so in this Jayco. So the light can get bumped on, you don't know it's on and it starts a fire! It melted and burned the cover over the light and it burned a tarp. Luckily the tarp mostly melted and never caught fire or we would have all DIED! THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY HAZARD. They either need to replace ALL these bulbs with LEDs that don't get hot OR put a COVER over that switch so that it cannot be accidentally turned on when contents in the bin shift during driving.
