## Probable cause

The non-instrument rated pilot not maintaining aircraft control and not maintaining altitude/clearance from terrain during takeoff into instrument meteorological conditions.  Contributing factors were the low ceilings, night conditions present, and the pilot's improper decision to depart into known instrument meteorological conditions.
