Special Condition: Israel Aircraft Industries (IAI), Model Astra SPX, High-Intensity Radiated Fields

This special condition is issued for the Israel Aircraft Industries (IAI) Model Astra SPX airplane. This new airplane utilizes new avionics/electronic systems, such as electronic displays and electronic engine controls, that perform critical functions. The applicable regulations do not contain adequate or appropriate safety standards for the protection of these systems from the effects of high- intensity radiated fields (HIRF). This special condition contains the additional safety standards that the Administrator considers necessary to establish a level of safety equivalent to that established by the existing airworthiness standards.
