## Abstract

This amendment to the Federal Aviation Regulations (FAR) specifies airplane and equipment airworthiness standards for subsonic transport airplanes to be operated up to an altitude of 51,000 feet. This action is prompted by an increase in the number of applications received to raise the maximum certificated operating altitude for transport category airplanes, and is intended to ensure an acceptable level of safety for airplanes operated at high altitudes.
