Airworthiness Directives; Airbus Model A320 Series Airplanes

This amendment adopts a new airworthiness directive (AD), applicable to certain Airbus Model A320 series airplanes, that requires repetitive rotating probe inspections of fastener holes and/or the adjacent tooling hole of a former junction of the aft fuselage, and corrective action, if necessary. This amendment also provides for optional terminating action for the repetitive inspections. This amendment is prompted by issuance of mandatory continuing airworthiness information by a foreign civil airworthiness authority. The actions specified by this AD are intended to prevent reduced structural integrity of the aft fuselage caused by fatigue cracking of the former junction at frame 68. DATES: Effective July 30, 1998. The incorporation by reference of certain publications listed in the regulations is approved by the Director of the Federal Register as of July 30, 1998.
