Dataset · US Energy Information Administration · primary source ↗

Every electric generation unit in the US from EIA Form 860 — 26,013 operable + 2,181 proposed + 5,253 retired/canceled generators. Per unit: plant code + utility, generator ID, technology (Solar PV / Natural Gas Combined Cycle / Nuclear / Wind / Hydro / Petroleum / Biomass / Coal), prime mover (CC/GT/ST/WT/PV/NUC/HYC/IC), primary energy source, status (Operable/Standby/Retired), nameplate capacity MW, summer/winter MW, operating year, planned retirement year, state + county, operability tier. Joins via plant_code to eia_plants for address + balancing authority + NERC region. Powers cross-vertical analyses (e.g. coal-plant retirement schedule vs EPA Clean Air Act formal actions on the same plant).
