## Abstract

The Department of Labor hereby issues a final rule revising its existing regulations governing the conduct of Departmental employees and members of the public as it pertains to the treatment of records covered by the Privacy Act of 1974, 5 U.S.C. 552a, as amended. The existing regulations were promulgated shortly after the Privacy Act was enacted over 20 years ago and are in need of revision. In their place new regulations are being issued. The intent of these final regulations is to conform Labor Department requirements with the caselaw which evolved under the Privacy Act over the past years and to provide clarity.
