State Highway Safety Data and Traffic Records Improvements

This document specifies requirements that States must meet to be eligible for incentive grants for improved highway safety data and traffic records systems. It is being adopted in accordance with the provisions of the Transportation Equity Act for the 21st Century. To enable States to begin qualifying for grants as soon as possible, the requirements are being published in an interim final rule, which will go into effect prior to providing notice and the opportunity for comments. However, NHTSA requests comments on the rule. Following the close of the comment period, NHTSA will publish a separate document responding to the comments and, if appropriate, will amend the regulation.
