Abstract
The Department of Transportation (DOT) is implementing the Transportation Infrastructure Finance and Innovation Act of 1998 (TIFIA) to provide credit assistance to surface transportation projects. The TIFIA authorizes the DOT to provide secured (direct) loans, lines of credit, and loan guarantees to public and private project sponsors of eligible surface transportation projects. Projects will be evaluated and selected by the Secretary of Transportation. Following selections, individual credit agreements will be developed through negotiations between the project sponsors and the DOT.
