The Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) is amending its regulations to allow licensing for the interim storage of Greater than Class C (GTCC) waste in a manner that is consistent with current licensing for the interim storage of spent fuel and will maintain Federal jurisdiction for storage of reactor-related GTCC waste. The final rule will only apply to the interim storage of GTCC waste generated or used by commercial nuclear power plants. These amendments will also simplify and clarify the licensing process.
