The Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) is amending the licensing, inspection, and annual fees charged to its applicants and licensees. The amendments are necessary to implement the Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act of 1990 (OBRA-90), which mandates that the NRC recover approximately 100 percent of its budget authority in Fiscal Year (FY) 1997 less amounts appropriated from the Nuclear Waste Fund (NWF). The FY 1997 NRC Appropriation also excluded from the fee base the cost of NRC review relating to the commercial vitrification of waste stored at the Department of Energy Hanford, Washington, site. The amount to be recovered for FY 1997 is approximately $462.3 million.
