## Abstract

The Department of Energy (DOE or the Department) is amending its test procedure for water heaters. The first-hour rating for storage-type water heaters is revised to more accurately measure large storage-type water heaters. Also, electric and gas-fired instantaneous water heaters are rated at the maximum flow rate to distinguish them from storage-type water heaters.
