## Abstract

The Department of Energy (DOE or the Department) today is publishing a final rule for the use of polygraph examinations for certain DOE and contractor employees, applicants for employment, and other individuals assigned or detailed to Federal positions at DOE. The regulation describes the categories of individuals who will be eligible for polygraph testing and controls for the use of such testing and for prevention of unwarranted intrusion into the privacy of individuals. This regulation is an important element of the Department's efforts to protect highly sensitive and classified information and materials to which certain DOE and contractor employees have access. The final rule adopted today also contains conforming changes to regulations governing the Department's Personnel Security Assurance Program (PSAP) and Personnel Assurance Program (PAP).
