05/01/2025: Consent Decree Modification regarding certain discharges originating from the from the GE-Pittsfield facility to abutting surface waters, primarily the Housatonic River. The oversight and regulation of such discharges is being switched from the NPDES program to the Regional Superfund program. REFERRAL OF SETTLEMENT FOR COMPREHENSIVE CLEANUP OF PCB CONTAMINATION IN PITTSFIELD, BERKSHIRE COUNTY AND HOUSATONIC VALLEY OF CT. GE REQUIRED TO PERFORMER PAY FOR OVER 25 REMOVAL ACTIONS AND REMEDIAL ACTION ON REST OF RIVER . GE TO ALSO COMMIT $25 MILLION FOR THE REDEVELOPMENT, AND UP TO $70 MILLION IN COST 10/20/2016 EPA issued a final permit modification for the Rest of River component of the consent decree. 01/16/2014: Settlement of Cost Dispute. Court ordered GE to pay costs that were defined in the Consent Decree in Untited States et al v. General Electric Co., Civil Action No. 99-30225 MAP (consolidated) (D.Mass)( Decree ). 09/24/2014: Amendment of Consent Decree (#12) to provide for Institutional Controls on certain properties owned by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
