EPA filed a Consent Agreement and Final Order (CA/FO) in the matter of Del Monte Fresh Produce (Hawaii), Inc., resolving Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) violations at its facility in Kunia, Hawaii, on the island of Oahu. The violations were discovered during an EPA inspection. Del Monte, a large quantity generator of hazardous waste, had previously closed its agricultural operations in Hawaii, and was in the process of cleaning out and closing down its maintenance shop and warehouses on Oahu. The violations concerned the storage and management of waste pesticides, cleaning fluids, corrosives, paints, aerosols, and mercury, as well as used oil and universal waste batteries. Under the terms of the settlement, Del Monte agrees to pay a $190,000 civil penalty and certifies that it has fully complied with the applicable RCRA requirements.
