On 9/21/2004 at 7:00 pm, Sunoco, Inc. (R&M) discovered a release of anhydrous ammonia at their waste water treatment plant. Under CERCLA, the reportable quantity is 100 lbs. The total amount of anhydrous ammonia realeased was 660 lbs - or 6.6 times the RQ. The person in charge of the facility notified the National Response Center on 9/22/2004 at 1:25 pm or 18 hrs and 25 minutes after the release was discovered. The release actually started on 9/21/2004 at 11:53 am.
