Summary

Transmetco, Inc. sent a letter to the United States Environmental Protection Agency requesting an extension of the dioxin/furan 90-day stack testing deadline for a natural gas-fired sweat furnace at their facility in Huntington, Indiana. The sweat furnace is subject to 40 CFR 63, Subpart RRR. Testing of the furnace under normal conditions of full capacity was required by March 13, 2005. In a letter dated March 21, 2005, Transmetco, Inc. informed the USEPA that the plant was unable to operate under normal working conditions due to issues regarding furnace refractory problems, an undersized burner gas orifice and an oversized furnace choke resulting in a substantial restricted feed rate. A request was made to extend the stack testing deadline by 180 days. It was agreed to complete the testing requirements by August 20, 2005. This is addressed in Administrative Order EPA-5-05-113(a)-11-IN.
