U.S. EPA FILES AN ADMINISTRATIVE COMPLAINT AGAINST METALTEK INTERNATIONAL, WAUKESHA, WI
On September 30, 2005, U.S. EPA, Region 5, filed a complaint against MetalTek International, Inc., Wisconsin Centrifugal Division, Waukesha, Wisconsin for alleged violations of the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA). The complaint proposes a $149,688.00 fine.
The MetalTek International, Inc. facility is located at 905 East St. Paul Avenue, Waukesha, Wisconsin. The company is a supplier of centrifugal castings, vacuum centrifugal castings, and continuos castings. There are three foundries within the facility, a stainless steel foundry, a bronze foundry, and a vacuum casting cobalt foundry. U.S. EPA and the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (WDNR) discovered the violations during an inspection on February 26, 2003. The violations include: storage of three 55-gallon containers of hazardous waste coolant sludge for greater than 90 days; failure to record weekly inspections in an inspection log or summary from 4/18/2001 through 2/26/2003; failure to place an accumulation date on a 55-gallon container of hazardous waste coolant sludge in the Main Machine Shop Maintenance Area; failure to place accumulation dates of three 55-gallon containers of coolant sludge in the outdoor less than 90 day storage area; failure to place an accumulation date on five hazardous waste 12-cubic yard lugger boxes; failure to label five 12-cubic yard lugger boxes with the words �Haz
