## Summary

Pittsburgh Metal & Equipment Site was the location of a smelter that operated from the early 1960s to the late 1990s. The operation resulted in significant metals contamination in the soils. EPA conducted a removal action at the Site and is seeking reimbursement for the expenditures. The parties that are the subject of this action are the major parties at the Site, all of whom have contributed from 3% to 28% of the material to the Site. DOJ participation at this Site was initiated verbally in the context of the de minimis settlement approval. The Federal Register Notice was published May 20, 2005 and negotiations commenced among DOJ, EPA and the proposed defendants.

The settlement was entered by the court on Feb. 15, 2006.
