Summary

Leon A. Bathaser currently owns the site property. The Site is a 41,000 square foot parking lot. During Mr. Balthaser ownership, the site has been used by patrons of a nearby restaurant for parking, extra parking for local residences, and a garden. Prior to Mr. Balthaser acquisition of the property, it was owned by General Battery Corporation, and it was used for employee parking and storage of various materials, reportedly including crushed battery casings. During the removal assesment, EPA found levels of lead contamination as hish as 522,000 ppm. on the surface of the parking lot. General Battery's successor, Exide Corporation, is also a PRP because it was the owner of the site at the time of disposal. Exide has filed for bankruptcy and DOJ on behalf of EPA has filed a proof of claim for response costs associated with this Site.
