On June 18, 2009, Region 10 signed an administrative settlement with the Goldfield Corporation and Combustion Engineering, Inc. (Settling Parties) for payment of $357,000 in response costs at the Anderson-Calhoun Mine and Mill Site (site) in Leadpoint, Washington. Lead, zinc, and barium tailings from milling operations were disposed of at the site in areas around the mill and in a raised tailings impoundment. The Settling Parties are former owners and operators of the site and have collectively contributed $465,000 to investigate, develop, and assess cleanup alternatives. The payment received under this settlement will reimburse EPA for past costs incurred during a 2003 time-critical removal action and provide partial funding for future removal work to be conducted by a third responsible party.
