Region 10 Settles with U.S. Silver Corporation for Clean Water Act Violations (Wallace, ID). On May 12, 2011, EPA Region 10 filed a Consent Agreement and Final Order settling Clean Water Act violations with U.S. Silver Corporation. The NPDES permit violations include unpermitted discharges of mine tailings and exceedances of the permitÂs effluent limits for copper, lead, and mercury at the Coeur and Galena Mines and Mills (Facility) from 2008 to 2010. U.S. Silver Corporation will pay a penalty of $87,000 and has replaced old open drop boxes with HDPE piping and improved treatment of its effluent. The Facility is a silver mine located near Wallace, Idaho.
