On March 15, 2011, Region I reached a settlement with Preferred Freezer Services, LLC (Preferred), a commercial refrigeration company with 25 facilities nationwide, in which Preferred will pay a $75,000 fine to settle an environmental enforcement action brought by Region I for Clean Air Act violations at PreferredÂs refrigerated warehouses in Raynham, Sharon and Westfield, Massachusetts. Preferred violated federal regulations designed to prevent chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) from leaking from industrial refrigeration equipment; failed to certify that it had appropriate CFC recovery or recycling equipment; failed to obtain training certifications for a service technician; and, provided incomplete initial responses to an EPA information request.
