Summary

On December 3, 2018, District Court for District of Maryland entered a consent decree pursuant to Section 107 of CERCLA against Honeywell International, Inc. and Mack's Truck, Inc. ( Settling Defendants ) and against the Department of Defense , including the U.S. Department of Army and the U.S. Department of Navy ( Settling Federal Defendants ) to recovery unreimbursed past costs at the Site which totaled $18,878,707.85. Pursuant to the settlement , the Settling Defendants will pay $5,500,000 and the Settling Federal Defendants will pay $6,250,000 which represents a 62% recovery of total past response costs. The site, located Elkton, Maryland, was used for the disposal of wastes generated as part of its facility operations during and just after World War II. Waste was collected in drums and disposed of in trench-like areas referred to as fireholes which were scattered across the site.
