On July 16, 2012, Region 1 filed a Consent Agreement and Final Order (CAFO) that both initiates and resolves a Clean Air Act (CAA) administrative penalty action against AA Asbestos Abatement Co., Inc. of Johnston, Rhode Island for alleged notification violations under the National Emission Standards for Hazardous Air Pollutants for Asbestos (Asbestos NESHAP), at 40 C.F.R. Part 61, Subpart M. The company failed to provide proper prior written notification under the Asbestos NESHAP during regulated demolition or renovation activities at two separate Rhode Island locations. Under the CAFO, AA Asbestos must pay a civil penalty of $18,122.
