This case addresses violations of the Clean Air Act (CAA) by Nationwide Access, an importer of bicycle engine kits. In July 2011 Nationwide imported 1248 Chinese bicyle engines kits which had carburetors with adjustable idle mixture screws and lacked air filters. The certificate of conformity for these engines does not allow for an adjustable idle mixture screw. and requires an air filter.
As part of the settlement with EPA, Nationwide Access has agreed to pay a $10,800 civil penalty and to export the engines outside of the United States, Mexico or Canada.
