Summary

THE TOWN OF HOT SPRINGS, MONTANA, VIOLATED THEIR NPDES PERMIT AND SEVERAL SECTIONS OF THE CWA. THE TOWN DISCHARGED SEWAGE INTO NAVIGABLE WATERS AFFECTING THE CONFEDERATED SALISH AND KOOTENAI TRIBES. The Town of Hot Springs had an unauthorized discharge of untreated waste water into Hot Springs Creek and the surrounding wetland. The order requires the Town to submit information verifying the sanitary sewer overflow has been repaired, to review and begin enforceing its sewer system ordinance and other local controls relating to the system, and to evaluate the system and submit a plan and schedule checking for and correcting deficiencies and/or modifications that may be contributing to the facility's sanitary sewer overflows. The order also requires the Town to develop a draft management and operation plan for the facility to prevent future sanitary sewer overflows.
