On June 5, 2012, EPA Region 6 issued an Administrative Order (AO) and Administrative Penalty Order (APO) under its authority pursuant to the Clean Water Act (CWA) to the City of Socorro located in Socorro, New Mexico. The AO and APO were issued in response to violations of: failure to meet effluent limitations for Biochemical Oxygen Demand
(30 and 7 Day Averages); Total Suspended Solids (7 Day Average); E. coli (7 Day Average and Daily Maximum); and Total Residual Chlorine (Instant Maximum). The AO requires the City of Socorro to certify compliance with permit effluent limitations.
