Plaintiffs U.S. EPA and the Nevada Department of Environmental Protection (NDEP) have jointly entered a Consent Decree with Barrick Goldstrike Mines, Inc (Barrick), resolving Barrick's alleged violations under the State's authorized hazardous waste program under Subtitle C of the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA). Although Barrick disputed the allegations, it has conducted itself in good faith in its discussions with the Plaintiffs, and has implemented operational changes at its Facility, obviating the need for injunctive relief pertaining to the alleged violations. Barrick has agreed to pay a total civil penalty of $196,000, with each Plaintiff receiving half ($98,000).
