U.S. Department of the Interior (Bureau of Indian Education Sacramento Education line Office) failed to conduct inspections; reinspections; and develop asbestos management plans as required under the Asbestos Hazard Emergency response Act (AHERA) at Sherman Indian School in Riverside, California, and Pyramid Lake High School in Nixon, Nevada. Sherman Indian School and Pyramid Lake High School have since come into compliance with AHERA. The U.S. Department of the Interior (Bureau of Indian Education Sacramento Education Line Office) was fined $10,100, which was applied to the cost of coming into compliance with AHERA requirements.
