On April 29, 2013, EPA Region 1 entered into a CERCLA Administrative Settlement Agreement and Order on Consent with Coats American, the former owner and operator of the site. Coats American has agreed to pay for and perform a removal action at the Former American Thread Company site located in Willimantic CT. The primary purpose of the Settlement Agreement is to address high levels of hazardous substances in surface soils by performing hot spot soil removals and by treating certain areas using biosolid process to reduce the bioavailability of the contaminates of concern (primarily lead).
