EPA inspected Harscos Pawnee facility on April 18, 2012. Based on the inspection, the facility was determined to possibly be subject to the New Source Performance Standards (NSPS) for Non-Metallic Mineral Processing. Due to this possibility, Harsco choose to voluntary implement the standard. In addition, Harsco has agreed to implement a fugitive dust control plan (FDCP) approved by EPA and submit a revised permit application to the Illinois EPA and Ohio EPA to include the FDCP as part of the Pawnee, IL, Pekin, IL, Gallipolis, OH, and Niles, OH facilities' air permit. This FDCP will require Harsco to do monthly and annual inspections of its operations and buildings to ensure necessary repairs and other measures are taken to minimize particulate matter emissions from its facility. Harscos Pawnee facilitys revised permit application will also include the requirements for the NSPS for Non-Metallic Mineral Processing.
