EPA issued Consent Agreement and Final Order (CAFO) to resolve a Notice and Finding of Violation (NOV/FOV) issued March 12, 2013 to Illinois River Energy (IRE) of Rochelle, Illinois. EPA�s NOV/FOV alleged that IRE failed to meet NOx emission limits and failed to meet operating and monitoring permit conditions at their thermal oxidizers. IRE violated permit conditions through the substandard operation of the facility�s scrubber and by directly venting volatile organic compounds and hazardous air pollutants from its fermentation tanks. The CAFO resolves IRE�s violations and requires IRE to pay a $69,399.00 civil penalty. IRE has corrected the violations and is in compliance.
