The Site is a 26-acre parcel located in an industrial area on the Tremley Point peninsula adjacent to the Arthur Kill, in Linden, Union County, New Jersey. The Site was used for various industrial processes, including chlorine and hydrogen gas production, from approximately the mid-1950s to the mid-1980s, which caused the release of mercury and other hazardous substances at the Site. The Consent Decree with Linde Inc. f/k/a Praxair, Inc. resolves Linde f/k/a Praxair's alleged civil liability to the United States under Sections 106 and 107 of CERCLA as a successor to Union Carbide Corporation's alleged civil liability at the Site relating to Union Carbide Corporation's operation of a hydrogen gas purification, transfill, and repackaging plant on a 2.1-acre portion of the Site.
