On July 1, 2014, Region 1 filed an administrative complaint against Cascades Holding US, Inc. (d/b/a Cascades Auburn Fiber) for Clean Water Act violations at its pulp mill in auburn, Maine. Specifically, the company failed to comply with the terms and conditions of the Maine Pollutant Discharge Elimination System Multi-Sector General Permit for Stormwater Discharge Associated with Industrial Activity and failed to prepare and implement a Spill Prevention Control Countermeasure Plan.
