U.S. EPA and North Coast Unified Air Quality Management District (NCUAQMD) reached a Settlement agreement with Blue Lake Power (a biomass plant) for violations of the Clean Air Act. The plant is currently closed without known plans to re-open. Should it re-open, the proposed settlement requires the company to obtain appropriate permits, and install modern-day pollution control technology and dust-control measures. The company is required to pay a civil penalty of $5,000 and to contribute $10,000 to NCUAQMD's Wood Stove Incentive Replacement Program.
