The settlement provides for the recovery of $100,000.00 of EPA's costs with respect to the Site. The Respondent is a successor to Scranton and Lehigh Coal Company, which owned and operated an open-storage coal yard directly on the Canal from approximately 1886 to 1948. The Respondent, a family-owned company, sold its home heating oil delivery business in 2007 prior to the Site being listed. EPA determined the Respondent is essentially defunct and has limited ability to pay.
