## Summary

On September 16, 2015, Region 1 signed an Administrative Settlement Agreement (Settlement Agreement) with Massachusetts Electric Company (MEC) d/b/a National Grid (Settling Party) with respect to the Peabody Street Asbestos Superfund Site, located in Salem, Massachusetts (Site). In the Settlement Agreement, the Settling Party agrees to pay EPA $850,000 plus interest to settle EPAs past costs. From approximately 1910 to 1964, MEC and other utilities operated a power plant at the Site. In 1964, MEC demolished the power plant, with the majority of the demolition material being left in place. EPA performed a time-critical removal action at the Site to remove asbestos-contaminated soils. The Site is not listed on the National Priorities List. The effective date of the Settlement Agreement will follow a 30-day public comment period and review of any comments received
