On November 30, 2016, Region 10 filed a consent agreement and final order resolving violations of the Clean Water Act by Alaska Boat Company, LLC in Seattle, Washington. Respondent, which operates a general warehousing, storage and boat building and repair facility, discharged pollutants to waters of the U.S. that exceed zinc and copper benchmarks and require treatment under Washington's Industrial Stormwater General Permit. Region 10 inspected the facility as part of ongoing coordination with the state to ensure compliance and enforce clean water rules at industrial facilities to reduce pollutant levels in the Puget Sound. Industrial pollutants, if not properly controlled and treated, enter stormwater and waterways. Contaminated stormwater from industrial facilities is a significant contributor to water pollution in Puget Sound. The company agreed to pay a penalty of $43,000.
