A CONSENT AGREEMENT AND FINAL ORDER ( CAFO ) WAS FILED RESOLVING VIOLATIONS OF THE ASBESTOS HAZARD EMERGENCY RESPONSE ACT ( AHERA ) UNDER THE TOXIC SUBSTANCES CONTROL ACT ( TSCA ). AN EPA INSPECTION AT THE SCHOOL DISTRICT FOUND THAT THE DISTRICT FAILED TO MAINTAIN AN UPDATED COPY OF THE AHERA MANAGEMENT PLAN IN ONE OF ITS MIDDLE SCHOOLS. THE AHERA MANAGEMENT PLAN IS USED TO NOTE THE LOCATION AND CONDITION OF ASBESTOS-CONTAINING MATERIAL (ACM) THROUGHOUT THE SCHOOL AND MUST BE AVAILABLE FOR REVIEW BY PARENTS, TEACHERS, AND EMPLOYEES. A MANAGEMENT PLAN HELPS PREVENT ASBESTOS EXPOSURE BY ENSURING THAT ANY MAINTENANCE OR OTHER ROUTINE SCHOOL ACTIVITIES WILL NTO ERSULT IN THE DISTURBANCE OF ACM. THE GOVERNOR DISTRICT SPENT OVER $6,666.00 TO COMPLY WITH AHERA REGULATIONS.
