On June 9, 2016, EPA Region 6 issued an AOC under its authority pursuant to CAA to Celanese Clear Lake Facility located in Pasadena, TX. The AOC was issued in response to violations of the respondent failing to design and maintain a safe facility and did not taking such necessary steps to prevent accidental releases of ethylene oxide by mechanical integrity inspections, which upon failure released chlorine to the ambient air. The AOC requires Celanese Clear Lake to take corrective actions and provide documentation to Region 6 within 180 days of the effective date of the order.
