This case addresses violations of the Act to Prevent Pollution from Ships (APPS) by Hamburg Cruise S.A. owner of the ship Hamburg. On February 26, 2013, the ship Hamburg, entered into the North American Emission Control Area (ECA) and the U.S. Economic Exclusion Zone (EEZ) in transit to the port of New Orleans using fuel oil with a sulfur content of 1.51% m/m.
The Hamburg continued to operate in the North American ECA and the U.S. EEZ using fuel oil with a sulfur content of 1.51% m/m until approximately February 28, 2013, in violation of APPS section 1907.
As part of the settlement with EPA, Hamburg Cruise S.A. paid a $13,491 civil penalty to the US Treasury.
