This case addresses violations of the Act to Prevent Pollution from Ships (APPS) by Great Enterprise Company Limited (GECL), owner of the ship Pretty Lady. On November 12, 2012, the ship Pretty Lady, entered into the North American Emission Control Area (ECA) and the U.S. Economic Exclusion Zone (EEZ) in transit to the port of New Orleans using fuel oil with a sulfur content of 1.97% m/m.
The Pretty Lady continued to operate in the North American ECA and the U.S. EEZ using fuel oil with a sulfur content of 1.97% m/m until approximately November 14, 2012, in violation of APPS section 1907.
As part of the settlement with EPA, GECL paid a $14,767 civil penalty to the US Treasury.
