On March 28, 2017, Region 10 filed a consent agreement and final order resolving violations of the Clean Water Act by the Ketchikan Gateway Borough, located in Ketchikan, Alaska. Respondent, which operates two wastewater treatment facilities, discharged pollutants to waters of the U.S. and exceeded its NPDES permit limits for sewage related pollutants, including fecal coliform. The Borough upgraded their sampling equipment and developed and implemented a quality assurance project plan that will ensure accurate sampling and laboratory analysis in the future. The Borough agreed to pay a penalty of $9,250.
