The Ground Water and Enforcement Branch issued an Administrative Order to Tender Years Child Care and Development Center in Deale, Maryland. The system provides drinking water to approximately 72 students and staff members and continues to violate Safe Drinking Water Act regulations, specifically violations of the Lead and Copper Rule. The system exceeded the action level for lead in 2013, and subsequently failed to provide lead public education, failed to distribute lead sample consumer notices, failed to submit a recommendation for Optimum Corrosion Control Treatment (OCCT) to Maryland, and failed to notify the public of the previous violations. Failure to implement OCCT and notify the public can pose a threat to public health. This Order addresses all current violations, develops a schedule for full compliance, and requires installation and proper of operation of OCCT. Now that the Order has been issued the Ground Water and Enforcement Branch will work closely with Maryland Department of the Environment staff to enforce the Order.
