On September 12, 2017, Region 10 filed an expedited settlement agreement resolving spill prevention, control and countermeasure requirements (SPCC) violations of the Clean Water Act by Snug Harbor Seafoods, Inc., located in Kenai, Alaska. Respondent, which operates a fish weighing station and boat fueling dock on the Kenai River, stored diesel fuel, gasoline and waste oil in noncompliance with the CWA Section 311 SPCC requirements, including inadequate secondary containment and lack of inspections. The Kenai River is one of the main salmon spawning and rearing rivers in central Alaska, and a central location for the lower Cook Inlet salmon fishing industry. As part of the post-SPCC inspection process, the company made structural improvements to the oil storage equipment and implemented a SPCC plan. The company agreed to pay a penalty of $2,275.
