This case concerns the sale and installation by Ryan's Diesel Service LLC (Ryan's) in 20 motor vehicles of emissions control defeat devices during the period from December 2014 to January 2016. Defeat devices are products which render inoperative emission control systems on EPA-certified motor vehicles and motor vehicle engines.
As part of the settlement, Ryan's paid a $19,950 civil penalty to the US Treasury and agreed to refrain from purchasing, selling or installing defeat devices and to refrain from tampering with emissions controls on motor vehicles and motor vehicle engines.
