On February 6, 2019, the Region and a construction company, Wesco Construction Co. entered into a CAFO to settle Asbestos NESHAP violations discovered during the renovation of an office building in Blue Bell, PA. Wesco was renovating the facility. During two inspections of the building, EPA found that Wesco and the facility's owner failed to adequately wet all the asbestos containing material while it was stripped from components at the Facility and to ensure that the material remained wet until it was collected and contained or treated in preparation for disposal. After the inspections, the Region found that Wesco and the owner did not provide EPA with the required written notice of their intention to renovate the Facility. Wesco will pay a penalty of $7,136. EPA's first inspection of the facility was based upon information provided by Pennsylvania and the litigation team has kept the State informed about our enforcement actions.
