On 09/21/2018, Region 10 issued an administrative compliance order on consent to address violations of the Clean Water Act by City of St. Maries, St. Maries, Idaho. Respondent, which operates a wastewater treatment facility, discharged pollutants to waters of the U.S. exceeding its NPDES permit limits for pH, total residual chlorine (TRC), and 5-day biological oxygen demand (BOD). The City agreed to enter into a compliance order that requires that they identify and complete capital improvements to both the collection system and wastewater treatment facility and subsequently return to compliance with NPDES permit limits by November 30, 2021. These upgrades will improve the water quality of the receiving waters by minimizing the occurrence of future effluent limit violations. In addition to this Order, the City also previously agreed to pay a penalty of $12,500 in August 2018. Contacts: Clarke Thurmon, (206) 553-2585; Brian Levo, (206) 553-1816.
