Region 10 Settles with City of St. Maries (St. Maries, ID) for CWA Violations
On 08/17/2018, Region 10 filed a consent agreement and final order to address violations of the Clean Water Act by City of St. Maries, St. Maries, Idaho. Respondent, which operates a wastewater treatment facility, discharged pollutants to waters of the U.S. exceeding its NPDES permit limits for pH, total residual chlorine (TRC), and 5-day biological oxygen demand (BOD). The City agreed to pay a penalty of $12,500 and to enter into a compliance order that requires the City to identify and complete capital improvements to both the collection system and wastewater treatment facility by October 31st, 2020. These upgrades will improve the water quality of the receiving waters by minimizing the occurrence of future effluent limit violations.
